The national security committee will meet on Monday after Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull returns from the ASEAN meeting in Malaysia, the first gathering since the terror attacks on Paris last weekend.

"I can assure you ... I have remained in the closest possible contact on all of these national security issues at home," Mr Turnbull told reporters in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday after attending a series of international meetings across the globe in the past week.

Australia's terror alert has been at high since September last year, indicating an attack on Australia is likely.

In response for calls for the immigration minister to be added to the committee, the prime minister said all other ministers would be invited to join when needed.

"Every single minister whatever their portfolio, if there is a matter before the NSC which is relevant to their portfolio, they are there," he said.
