The national holiday road toll stands at 28 after a toddler was struck by a car in the driveway of a Sydney home.
The boy was run over by a Mazda 3 in a driveway at Colyton on Saturday evening and a 23-year-old male driver has been taken to Nepean Hospital for mandatory blood and urine tests.
The Sydney toddler's death follows that of a Queensland baby who was killed on Friday by a reversing car driven by his mother.
The seven-month-old was in a pram when he was hit by the car as it was reversing on St Pauls Drive, Woodridge.
It's unlikely the boy's mother will be charged over the accident.
"The investigations are ongoing but it's unlikely they're going to charge a mother over something like this," a Queensland Police spokeswoman said on Saturday.
Victoria has recorded nine road deaths since the holiday toll period began on December 23.
NSW has recorded eight deaths, and police were out in force on New Year's Eve with more than 1000 officers and 500 highway patrol cars on duty.
South Australia and Queensland have recorded four deaths each, while Western Australia has recorded three.
The Northern Territory, Tasmania and the ACT have not recorded any road deaths.
