Nationals director quits after five years

The junior coalition partner is looking for a new federal director with Scott Mitchell signalling he will quit the post next year.

The man behind the Nationals' past two solid election results will step down early in the new year.

Nationals federal director Scott Mitchell has been at the helm for five years, heading the 2013 and 2016 campaigns for the junior coalition partner.

The party increased its parliamentary numbers at both elections, which led to more frontbench positions.
