Nationals MP Kay Hull has announced her retirement from federal politics.
The member for Riverina announced on Tuesday she will not re-contest her seat the next election.
It follows the more high-profile farewell of former opposition leader Malcolm Turnbull from the nation's parliament.
"After 20 years as a community representative (eight years on Wagga Wagga City Council and 12 years as the Member for Riverina), it is time for me to move aside," Ms Hull said in a statement.
"It has been an honour and a privilege to have served the communities of the Riverina."
Hull praised
Nationals leader Warren Truss praised Ms Hull, a former tow truck driver and deputy mayor of Wagga Wagga, as one of the nation's best loved and hardest working politicians.
"Kay Hull might be tiny in stature, but that belies her huge commitment and vision," he said in a statement.
She could have easily progressed beyond her role as party whip if she'd wanted, Mr Truss said.
But Ms Hull, who entered federal politics in 1998, said she'd never regretted turning down offers of career advancement in order to serve the interests of her local community.
She has "never been an ordinary politician ... and will be incredibly difficult to replace", Mr Truss said.
The search is on for a replacement candidate for Riverina, which is considered a safe Nationals seat.
