Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce isn't taking an additional Nationals seat in cabinet for granted at this stage, in what's looking increasingly likely a return of the Turnbull coalition government.

But he expects the Nationals to hold the seats of Flynn and Capricornia which would lift its seats to 10 from nine in 2013 and would entitle the party to an additional cabinet position under proportional representation rules.

"If we are entitled to a position we will ask for that position ... we are basically waiting to find our where it all finishes," Mr Joyce told Sky News on Sunday.
