NSW Nationals MP Andrew Gee will replace his fallen colleague Andrew Broad on the federal government's frontbench.

Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack says Mr Gee will be sworn in as his assistant later this month.

"Andrew has a passion for and dedication to his electorate and for country people which is infectious," the Nationals leader said in a statement on Friday.

"Having worked with Andrew as we delivered the historic Murray-Darling Medical Schools network, I know when he is passionate about sticking up for country people and delivering local services and infrastructure, he is determined to deliver.

"That's what I want him to do as an assistant minister in our portfolio."

Mr Gee, who hails from NSW's Central West, said he's looking forward to the posting.

"I am passionate about attracting jobs, opportunities and investment to the bush and am excited at the opportunity to serve on the Nationals' frontbench in this new role," he said.

Mr Broad resigned from the frontbench after being embroiled in a texting scandal with a woman from a "sugar daddy" website, and will retire form politics as the next election.

His replacement for the Victorian seat of Mallee will be chosen by a ballot of Nationals members on Saturday, with six candidates vying for pre-selection.
