Aaron Naughton's breakout AFL performance has put a target on the back of the teenage Western Bulldogs key forward.

But coach Luke Beveridge has backed Naughton to cope with what Brisbane will throw at him on Saturday in Ballarat, saying he has the right temperament as well as great support from teammates.

Naughton starred in last week's upset win over Richmond with five goals and 14 marks, nine of them contested.

The 19-year-old has played 25 matches in two seasons and this was clearly his best senior game so far.

As expected, the Lions regained Harris Andrews and he will undoubtedly spend time playing on Naughton.

"He'll be fine, he's got a great temperament and, even as a 19-year-old, he's big and strong and we're sure he'll handle himself all right," Beveridge said.

"You can't go up to a player and say, 'Hey mate, you had a good day - there's every chance it might go south this week'.

"All you do is remind Aaron of the important things that enabled him to play well."

Beveridge added that other Bulldogs forwards played crucial support roles as Naughton shone against the Tigers and the same will have to apply in Ballarat.

"They're going to try and make his life hard. We've got to work together," he said.

"Our forwards really helped him last week as well. Billy Gowers and others played sacrificial roles at times and having a cohesive forward mix is as important as that one individual down there who can take a big grab."

The Bulldogs regained Matt Suckling and dropped Tory Dickson for the Lions, who have made an impressive 5-2 start to the season.

Beveridge said the upset win over Richmond showed what they are capable of - and also the need to be more consistent.

"Whether it's Richmond or Brisbane this week, (it's) understanding that anyone can pull you apart in this even competition," he said.

The weather was awful when the Bulldogs lost to Port Adelaide by 44 points last July and there were complaints about the Ballarat venue's lighting in the dim conditions.

While it should be cold and wet again on Saturday, the game will start at 1.45pm.

"You'd hope it should be right, you'd hope we wouldn't need lights," Beveridge said.

"I'm pretty sure we can still see the Sherrin, and that's the main thing."
