Australia's biggest naval ship has sailed into Suva's harbour laden with helicopters and supplies to help with reconstruction efforts in cyclone-ravaged Fiji.
Foreign Minister Julie Bishop received a text message from Fiji Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama on Tuesday morning saying he witnessed HMAS Canberra's arrival.
"The people of Fiji were delighted to see such a physical manifestation of Australian support," she told reporters at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade crisis centre in Canberra.
Canberra carried 800 disaster relief personnel, army engineering assets, three helicopters and about 60 tonnes of emergency supplies including water purification equipment and medical supplies.
Ms Bishop said the ship would also take urgent supplies to outlying islands.
"There's a deep affection between the Australian people and the Fijian people and we are a partner in the good times and the bad," she said.
There are close to 40,000 Fijians homeless and still in evacuation centres.
Australia has sent more tarpaulins and shelter kits following a request from Fiji's foreign minister, Ms Bishop said.
Authorities were conscious of the spread of diseases including the mosquito borne Zika virus.
Ms Bishop is confident sanitation, health, hygiene kits and the medical teams on the ground are helping to manage the threat of outbreaks.
