An NBA academy has opened at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra, which shares its facilities with Basketball Australia's Centre of Excellence.
NBA academies are not new, with three in China already and one each in India and Africa.
The difference is the Australian academy includes athletes from across the globe. Argentina, India, Cameroon, Egypt and Japan are all represented along with Australia.
Sudanese-born Wani Swaka's family settled in Perth when he was aged 4. He told SBS World News he's prepared to do the work needed to make it. " You can go places if you give 100 per cent every day".
The technology used at the centre is state-of-the-art and is also used by several NBA teams.
It gives the academy's students the best preparation possible in their bid to make it in the NBA.
Indian player Aashay Verma says the technology is a win for the NBA and the students.

"Coaches will benefit from the new cameras and technology because they know what they want and they can get it easier now," he said.
Basketball Australia's Centre of Excellence has produced many current and former NBA players, including Andrew Bogut, Matthew Dellavedova, Dante Exum, Joe Ingles, Luc Longley and Patty Mills.
