Australian NBA rookie Thon Maker is hoping to back training within days after spraining his wrist in his first pre-season practice with the Milwaukee Bucks.
The 19-year-old was cleared of any serious injury to his right arm, suffered during a scrimmage in Madison, Wisconsin.
He was sent back to team headquarters in Milwaukee for tests, but returned to the training camp on Friday (AEST) wearing a wrist brace.
"I'll be back in a few days," said Maker.
"(I'm) just staying in it here on the sideline here with the guys.
"I think it happened for a reason, just so I can get better with my left hand!"
Coach Jason Kidd said Maker was keen to get back to work, but that his health was most important.
"The nice thing is he wants to be out there. That's his mentality, he's a player, he wants to get better," he said.
"Hopefully the swelling goes down and he can get back here in the next couple of days.
"We miss his energy but his health is a big concern for us, making sure he's healthy and ready to go."
Maker, born in Sudan and raised in Australia, was one of the surprise selections of the NBA Draft in June when the Bucks took him with the 10th overall pick.
He is set to play alongside compatriot Matthew Dellavedova, who has signed a US$US38 million ($A53 million) four-year deal with the franchise.
Dellavedova has had the opportunity to learn from two of the greatest ever point guards while in camp in Kidd and John Stockton, who was invited to lend a hand.
