NBL, NBA teams to meet in third pre-season

Three NBL teams will play a total of five pre-season games against NBA opposition in October as the series bounces into its third year.

NBL players could be pitted against Boomers duo Joe Ingles and Dante Exum and American superstars Russell Westbrook and Paul George during five NBA pre-season matches in the US in October.

Adelaide 36ers, Melbourne United and New Zealand Breakers will represent the NBL while three of the five American teams involved played in the recent NBA playoffs.

"That this series is now heading into a third consecutive year is a reflection of the strength of partnership between the NBL and the NBA and the incredible growth and success of basketball in Australia and New Zealand," NBL chief executive Jeremy Loeliger said.

Adelaide will play the Utah Jazz on Saturday, October 5 in Salt Lake City, with the Jazz roster boasting Ingles and Exum and two-time NBA defensive player of the year Rudy Gobert.

The Breakers will play the Memphis Grizzlies in Tennessee on Tuesday, October 8 before they face the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday, October 10 - a team which features New Zealand centre Steven Adams, former NBL player Terrance Ferguson and NBA All-Stars Westbrook and George.

Melbourne wrap up the series with two games in California, firstly against the Los Angeles Clippers - who could soon be the new home of two-time NBA champion Kawhi Leonard - on Sunday, October 13 and then against the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday, October 16.

"The NBL is now one of the premier basketball leagues in the world outside the NBA and we can't wait for October," Loeliger said.

Meanwhile, NBL champions Perth Wildcats have announced the re-signing of Grand Final MVP Terrico White for next season.

The guard was top 10 in scoring last season averaging 17 points and will continue his lethal backcourt partnership with fellow American Bryce Cotton.

"It's exciting for me because I feel like we can do something special with this group. Last season was incredible but now we have the opportunity to add to that," White told the team's website.
