NBN program to help medical alarm users

NBN Co says it will help people with unmonitored medical alarms connect their devices to the National Broadband Network.

Hundreds of Australians with personal medical alarms will receive financial assistance to update their technology as part of a trial coinciding with the NBN rollout.

The NBN Co will trial an assistance program with up to 400 people using the devices - which alert family or friends to a medical emergency via a phone call - as they switch over to the network.

The trial will help determine what support and change is necessary for people who have been using alarms reliant on a fixed-line connection.
