Nearly 86,000 new voters joined the electoral roll following the announcement of the federal election, the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) says.
The AEC says 85,996 additions were made to the electoral roll in the days between the announcement of the federal election, and the deadline for enrolment.
Over 14 million Australians are now eligible to vote.

The majority of these voters -- over eight million Australians -- reside in the two biggest states of New South Wales and Victoria.
A further 2.7 million reside in Queensland.
The number of enrolments is up by 385,000 since the last 2007 federal election.
Electoral laws state that new enrolments have only until 8pm on the day the writs of election are issued to enrol to vote.
