Nebraska and Iowa stocks rise, led by Union Pacific

NEW YORK — Nebraska and Iowa stocks rose, led by Union Pacific and Valmont Industries.

The Bloomberg Nebraska and Iowa Index, a price-weighted list of companies with operations in the region, rose 2.10 to 734.62.

Union Pacific rose 1.66 to 109.79. Valmont jumped 1.76 to 121.12.

In the broader market, the Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 9.28 to 2,091.18. The Dow Jones industrial average rose 56.22 to 17,958.73. The Bloomberg Nebraska and Iowa Index was developed with a base value of 100 as of Dec. 31, 1996.
