Nervous wait for some AFL Giants

With potentially up to six key men available again, some incumbent GWS players could face a nervous wait to see if they retain a spot for Saturday's final.

There's nervousness among some incumbent GWS team members as they wait to see if their spots are safe, with several stars expected to be available for Saturday's AFL elimination final.

The Giants could have up to six key players available again after injury for the local derby knockout clash with Sydney at the SCG.

It won't necessarily be a case of last in first out or less experienced players being omitted, with coach Leon Cameron last week praising some of the men who have recently been brought into the side.

In that category he said Lachie Keefe, Matthew Buntine and Aiden Bonar had all been terrific and gave no guarantee that most of the returning players would be picked.

Defender Buntine has played the past six games since recovering from an ACL injury.

"You don't want to miss out on being in the finals seeing you're in the team at the moment," Buntine told AAP.

"But for us as a club, it's great that we'll have so many people available and ultimately it comes down to Leon and the coaches picking the best side that can beat the Swans.

'You'd be be lying to say you weren't a little bit nervous that you might miss out.

"But in saying that you've just got to prepare the best you can and hopefully it goes your way..

"It's still so exciting to have Toby Greene and the like (possibly coming back) that are very good players and you certainly get a better side with them in it.

"You can't be too nervous or unexcited when it's going to go a long way towards helping us win."

The GWS defence is likely to have to contend with Lance Franklin, who missed the Swans last game with a groin issue.

The round before that, Franklin turned in a match-tilting second half performance against GWS, finishing with five goals.

While Franklin is almost inevitably a focus for opposing backlines, Buntine was wary of Sydney's crop of emerging small forwards.

"Tom Papley is probably one of the best small forwards running around in the competition; (also) Ben Ronke, Will Hayward," Buntine said.

"Even when their mids come down and have a rest, they can really hit the scoreboard hard."
