Neser tears through WA in big Shield clash

Queensland paceman Michael Neser has torn through WA's batting lineup at the WACA and just about ended the Warriors' hopes of making the Sheffield Shield final.

Michael Neser had a day out with the ball for Queensland but he's already in with the bat as honours were shared with Western Australia on day one of the Sheffield Shield clash at the WACA Ground.

Both teams need the win to be any chance of reaching the Shield final against Victoria and the game is on track for an early finish with 15 wickets falling on the opening day.

Bulls skipper Jimmy Peirson won the toss and sent WA in with the Warriors skittled for 138, losing their last seven wickets for 59.

Neser was the chief destroyer claiming 5-15 in 15 overs with nine maidens.

But he may also have to do a job with the bat as Queensland finished the day at 5-95.

Neser is not out 22 with Sam Heazlett 28.

"It's definitely even at the moment. It's unfortunate us losing those wickets but we just have to look forward now," Neser said.

"We have to build a partnership. It's disappointing but that's the way cricket goes sometimes. We did think if you bowled enough in the right area you would get rewarded but at the same time the wicket's not too bad. Those loose balls can still get dispatched."

WA were in early trouble batting first, losing Cameron Bancroft for just four.

But at 3-79 after lunch they were steadying before Hilton Cartwright (16) and Sam Whiteman (38) were dismissed.

From there the Warriors clawed their way to 138 as Queensland's quicks revelled on the seam-friendly wicket with the Dukes ball.

Matthew Renshaw's horror summer continued to start Queensland's innings when he was out caught behind off Joel Paris for one.

Marnus Labuschagne then made just two, Charlie Hemphrey five and Peirson four with the Bulls crumbling to 5-66 before Heazlett and Neser got them to stumps.

Paris has 2-15 for WA with a wicket each to Matt Kelly, Liam Guthrie and captain Mitch Marsh.
