Never heard of 'Coach Whisperer': Bennett

Wayne Bennett admits he has never heard of the 'Coach Whisperer' after Queensland raised eyebrows by adopting tactics from mind mentor Bradley Charles Stubbs.

The 'Coach Whisperer' may have to speak up because master mentor Wayne Bennett reckons he has never heard of him.

Bennett is rarely stumped at press conferences.

But the seven-time premiership winner was left scratching his head when told Queensland had adopted the tactics of mind coach Bradley Charles Stubbs ahead of next week's State of Origin opener.

"Never heard of him," Bennett said.

The South Sydney coach seemed even more baffled when 'Coach Whisperer' Stubbs' methods were explained to him.

After attending one of Stubbs' $5500 an hour Expect to Win seminars, Maroons coach Kevin Walters has banned Queensland players from mentioning NSW to the media.

Not speaking about the opposition is a key tactic by Stubbs who has been credited with helping win two NRL premierships and an A-League title.

Walters has even gone as far as slapping fines on Maroons players who let 'New South Wales' slip out in press conferences.

Not renowned for his comedy, stoic Rabbitohs mentor Bennett initially couldn't help but joke about the Maroons' curious approach to the June 5 opener.

"I just hope they don't get scared when they run on and see all the Blue jerseys and see what they've got themselves into," Bennett said.

Walters' unorthodox approach has raised eyebrows to say the least.

Queensland Rugby League chairman Bruce Hatcher reckoned it was "f***ing crazy" to pay a mind coach $5500 an hour when he was made aware this week of Walters' Stubbs session held in May.

Even left field thinking NSW coach Brad Fittler thought Queensland's approach was strange.

Fittler has introduced yoga, a breathing specialist and earthing - walking barefoot - to the NSW camp but couldn't help but chuckle over the Maroons' Blues ban.

"How good is it? I have my own rule about not reading papers and not getting too consumed by it but they are coming up with a different tactic and it is an unusual one," he told Sky Sports Radio.

Yet former Queensland coach Bennett refused to take aim at Walters.

"We all need a bit of help I suppose," he said.

"I've used different people in my life that gave me some good advice in my life - but they weren't mind coaches.

"But if they think it's going to work, then good luck to them."
