New airport security for US-bound passengers

Passengers flying direct to the United States from Europe, Africa and the Middle East are to be subject to an additional security check.

Passengers flying direct to the United States from Europe, Africa and the Middle East are to be subject to an additional security check.

They may be asked to show their mobile phones and tablets can be turned on and are charged, so security staff can check they're not bombs in disguise.

The changes follow reports terrorist networks are working on an explosive that could evade existing screening.

North America correspondent John Stempin spoke with Phillippa Carisbrooke about the threat.
