New CEO for grain marketer

Agribusiness veteran John Murray has retired as boss of grains marketer Emerald Grain and has been replaced by chief operating officer David Johnson.

Japanese owned grains marketer Emerald Grain has a new chief executive and chairman following the retirement of John Murray.

David Johnson, formerly Emerald's chief operating officer, replaces Mr Murray, who has been at the helm of the Sumitomo-owned company for more than three years.

Mr Johnson has 25 years' experience in the grains industry, including seven years as pool manager at wheat exporter AWB.

"With the backing of Sumitomo Corporation, Emerald Grain is well positioned to tackle the challenges and opportunities ahead, and I'm thrilled to be able to lead the company through its next phase," he said on Friday

Mr Murray will continue with Emerald Grain as a non-executive director.

Emerald runs 11 regional grain storage facilities in Victoria and NSW, feeding port terminals at Melbourne and Port Kembla.

Sumitomo Corporation said Mr Murray had put Emerald Grain in a strong position as one of Australia's largest grains marketers.
