New dad Johnson readies for US Open

Defending champion Dustin Johnson has arrived at Erin Hills two days out from his US Open title defence after his fiancee gave birth to their second child.

World No.1 Dustin Johnson has arrived to prepare for his US Open title defence after waiting for the birth of his second child.

For a time it looked as if Johnson might miss a second consecutive major, having been forced out of the Masters in April when he hurt his back in a tournament eve fall at Augusta.

But Johnson finally took to the Erin Hills course to practise for the first time on Tuesday evening.

He had previously said he would not travel to Wisconsin until fiancee Paulina Gretzky gave birth.

Media reported on Tuesday that Gretzky had a boy, and an ESPN reporter tweeted a picture saying: "Meet the beautiful baby boy of Paulina Gretzky & Dustin Johnson. Name to come."

Johnson will be grouped with Jordan Spieth and Martin Kaymer, the two previous US Open winners, in Thursday's opening round.

At last year's US Open at Oakmont, Johnson won by three shots for his first major championship despite being given a controversial one-shot penalty for the accidental movement of his ball on the fifth green during the final round.
