SBS's Portuguese program has viewed the high-quality video, which shows a young man resembling Roberto Laudisio Curti, who was 21 when he died in the early hours of March 18.
The vision shows the same man holding up a packet of food in front of the store's counter, a contributor to the SBS Portuguese program, Marcos Moreira, says. Shortly afterwards, an employee can be seen making a phone call.
At the time of Mr Curti's shooting, police were investigating the theft of a packet of biscuits from the King St convenience store where the footage is understood to have been recorded.

Mr Curti was spotted in nearby Pitt St and chased by a number of officers, some of whom tried to subdue him with capsicum spray and tasers.
After being tasered, he stopped breathing and could not be revived despite the efforts of police and paramedics.
An investigation into Mr Curti's death is before the NSW Coroner.
