Re-imagined defending Super Netball champions Sunshine Coast will ensure they aren't caught napping in the Queensland derby after bursting to life in Perth last weekend.

The Lightning clicked in a 80-55 defeat of West Coast Fever in Perth on Sunday, with Ugandan recruit Peace Proscovia scoring 48 goals inside three quarters in the grand final replay.

They play the Queensland Firebirds on Sunday at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre, with the Firebirds also rebounding from a round one loss to draw with highly-fancied Collingwood 57-57.

The Lightning beat the Firebirds in week one of the finals on their way to the title last year but will present a different look this season.

Proscovia has replaced Australian captain Caitlin Bassett up front while South African Phumza Maweni has filled the defensive void left by Geva Mentor.

The recruitments appear to be a masterstroke from New Zealand coach Noeline Taurua and goal attack Stephanie Wood admits it's nice to prove any doubters wrong.

"It's not necessarily the motivation, but I love being the underdog," she said.

"We're quite a different team, we didn't replace a Geva with a Geva or a Bass with Bass.

"I guess people can write us off but I like being the underdog ... you've got to look forward and we've got to do our homework to make sure we're not caught napping (on Sunday)."

Firebirds goal attack Gretel Tippett said the Lightning's 80-point statement in Perth hadn't been missed.

"They're a classy team with an amazing coach and great players," she said.

"And they've got a South African goal circle now with (goal defence) Karla (Pretorius) and (goalkeeper) Phumza.

"They're a tough combo that have played together quite a bit."
