They're the young blood from the Sunshine State packing plenty of heat.

NSW firebrand David Klemmer is adamant Queensland's new-look side need to be respected when they look to level the State of Origin series in Sydney on Wednesday week.

Maroons coach Kevin Walters has made seven changes to the team that lost the series-opener two weeks ago.

"They've got class left, right and centre, and Johnathan Thurston coming back. Whatever selections they did make, that's how they thought they were going," Klemmer said.

"Whoever they put in, they're looking for a big game, especially down here. They're coming with heat and we've just got to prepare well for a big game."

Maroons rookie Coen Hess is one player Klemmer is well aware of after the North Queensland weapon stormed over for two tries in a strong win over Canterbury last month.

Hess is equal third on the NRL tryscoring list with 10.

The bench duo are set to lock horns immediately after their likely injection midway through the first half at ANZ Stadium, although Hess is expected to be used on the edge of the ruck.

"He's come a long way. The way he runs the footy, he's a strong boy," Klemmer said.

"Obviously, we've got to look out for him. Across the park, they're strong, Matt Gillett, Josh Papalii, and all those guys.

"You can add Coen Hess in there too now, so they're looking very strong."

Blues teammate Tyson Frizell was surprised by the mass overturn from the game one side but remained on high alert for an enthusiastic response from the Maroons.

"It's young blood. That'll freshen the team. Usually when you want to debut, you want to be putting your best foot forward and I guess they're going to be as keen as anything," he said.
