New online tool to reduce binge drinking

The Commonwealth is contributing $3 million towards a mobile app aimed at reducing dangerous binge drinking.

Tens of thousands of Australians are expected to benefit from a new program designed to help people cut back their alcohol intake.

The federal government is contributing $3 million towards a mobile app called the Daybreak Program, which offers access to professional health coaching and provides an anonymous support platform.

"Alcohol is the third highest risk factor for premature death and disease in Australia, and early intervention is critical," Health Minister Greg Hunt said on Sunday.
