New Queen portrait on Australian coins

Governor-General Peter Cosgrove has unveiled a new-look range of Australian coins featuring an updated portrait of the Queen for the first time in 20 years.

Australian coins will feature a new portrait of Queen Elizabeth II for the first time in 20 years.

Governor-General Peter Cosgrove unveiled the new coins designed by UK engraver Jody Clark at the Royal Mint in Canberra on Monday.

"This new effigy will be a new image for a new era, continuing to tell the story of a reign and lifetime," Sir Peter said.
