A 63-year-old man has been charged with punching a newborn baby in a supermarket.

Five-day-old Elsie Rose was on her first outing with her mother, Amy Duckers, 27, when she was struck in the head in her pram at the Tesco store in Baguley, Greater Manchester, on Monday.

The little girl was taken to hospital as a precaution but was later discharged.

A spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police said a man has been charged with assault and will appear in Court on October 4.
