Newcastle's Lamb rebounds from NRL shank

Newcastle NRL youngster Brock Lamb says he's moved on from his shocking penalty goal attempt which denied them at shot at Canterbury in golden point.

Newcastle NRL youngster Brock Lamb wants to prove his terrible penalty goal shank, denying the Knights a chance to take Canterbury to golden point, was a one-off.

The 20-year-old five-eighth badly pulled a shot on goal after the bell in Sunday's loss to the Bulldogs, with Newcastle trailing 20-18.

While such a crucial miss could dent even the most resilient player's confidence, Lamb said he had fared better than he expected after the ugly kick.

"It wasn't what I wanted and definitely disappointing to upset the fans and let down the boys," Lamb said on Wednesday.

"But I've got another chance this weekend to turn it around. Hopefully, I can put in a good performance and prove that was just a one-off mistake."

The lowly Knights gave up a 10-point lead over Canterbury who surged back to grab the lead with five minutes remaining.

Trent Hodkinson had kicked three from four but left the responsibility of the penalty conversion to Lamb.

"Unfortunately, I kicked a bit of the ground and didn't get the right kick away," Lamb said.

"I learned from that and everyone has them in their career, so I am glad to get it over and done with and, hopefully, I can move forward.

"I'll take that on the chin and I hope I never do anything like that in my career again.

"I have been working on my kicking game a fair bit so got to keep chipping away at it and we'll get there soon."

The Knights' next chance to add to their two wins will be against Brisbane on Saturday at McDonald Jones Stadium.

Lamb said he had extra motivation to perform against the Broncos, while backing his halves combination with the experienced Hodkinson.

"We can read each other without talking which is a key in the halves so it works well," Lamb said.

"We are pretty close on and off the field. He is very experienced so he does help me and tip me up if I'm doing things wrong and tip me up when I'm doing good things."
