Newcrest resumes work at Indonesian mine

Gold miner Newcrest has restarted production at one of its two Indonesian underground mines that were shut in early February following a `geotechnical' incident.

Newcrest Mining on Tuesday said it had restarted work at the Toguraci mine, at Gosowong, and will gradually increase the rate of mining. It expects to take at least two months to reach full production at Toguraci.

However, work at the Kencana mine - where a miner was trapped for more than a week following the February 8 incident - remains suspended while technical studies are carried out, the company said.

Newcrest says it will update production and cost guidance for Gosowong once work resumes.
