Nicki Minaj arrested at Amsterdam airport for alleged drug possession

The US rapper's detention forced her to postpone her show in Manchester in the UK.

Nicki Minaj has been arrested in the Netherlands for alleged drug possession.

The background: The US rapper was travelling to Manchester in the UK on Saturday evening as part of her Pink Friday World Tour when she was detained at Amsterdam airport.

In a series of social media posts, Minaj claimed that police said they "found weed" in her luggage after items were checked by customs.

Cannabis is illegal in the Netherlands, but it is tolerated for recreational use.

What else to know: Minaj said her security "already advised" authorities that drugs in her bag belonged to them, and not her.

What happens next: Minaj was released after being detained for a few hours, but will have to reschedule her Manchester show.
