Police in Las Vegas have confirmed there were no arrests after the post-fight melee which followed Conor McGregor's defeat to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 on Saturday.

McGregor tapped midway through the fourth round of the lightweight title battle with the undefeated Nurmagomedov, who then vaulted the octagon and attacked a member of the Irishman's team.

During the chaos McGregor was ambushed in the octagon by three member of Nurmagomedov's entourage, including his cousin, although he was seen to get away a few punches of his own.

UFC boss Dana White told Fox Sports that three members of Nurmagomedov's team were arrested in the aftermath of the violent scuffles but a statement from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department on Monday dismpelled that assertion.

"LVMPD officers assisted with breaking up several small fights that took place after Saturday night's UFC main event in Las Vegas. After all parties were separated, no one involved wished to press charges and no arrests occurred," the statement read.

McGregor was making his return to mixed martial arts after a two-year hiatus in an event which was billed as the biggest in the UFC's history.

The duo's camps clashed in Brooklyn in April in an incident which saw McGregor charged by police after he threw a handcart that smashed the window of a bus containing several fighters, including Nurmagomedov.

The Russian retained his lightweight title with a career-best performance at T-Mobile Arena but could be stripped of the belt if he draws a lengthy suspension, according to White.

McGregor has suggested his battle with Nurmagomedov is not over when he tweeted juist hours after the fight, "Good knock. Looking forward to the rematch."

On Monday he again appeared to call for another opportunity.

"We lost the match but won the battle. The war goes on," he tweeted.
