News Corporation boss Rupert Murdoch says Tony Abbott is "not perfect" but shouldn't lose his job.

The prime minister faces a Liberal leadership spill motion at a party room meeting in Canberra on Monday.

"Abbott, good guy, not perfect but no case for rebellion," Mr Murdoch tweeted on Sunday.

"Remember last one gave us Gillard disaster. Country still paying for it."
