No chance of Perth Freight Link revival

WA Transport Minister Rita Saffioti has shot down suggestions of Labor reconsidering the Perth Freight Link project.

WA Transport Minister Rita Saffioti says Labor will not reconsider going ahead with the Perth Freight Link despite the federal government still offering $1.2 billion for the project.

The controversial Roe 8 project, which was pushed by the Liberal party, was one of the key issues in the March election and Labor moved quickly to stop construction and cancel contracts when Mark McGowan became premier.

Ms Saffioti told 6PR radio on Monday the previous government had eight-and-a-half years to deliver the project and failed to do it, showing it was not even a priority for the Liberal party.

WA Opposition Leader Mike Nahan told reporters that scrapping the project would prove to be Labor's biggest mistake.

"The money has been sitting there accessible, it would fund most of the road," he said.

"More importantly, it would solve the serious problems with congestion in the south metro area."
