Luke Walton has been named November's NBA Western Conference Coach of the Month after guiding the defending champion Golden State Warriors to a perfect 19-0 record.
But the interim head coach won't get credit after guiding the likes of Stephen Curry and Australia's Andrew Bogut to the best start in league history.
The NBA issued a statement earlier in the day clarifying the rules regarding coaching records, saying interim coaches are not credited with team wins and losses.
So, Walton is technically 0-0.
Instead, the beneficiary is head coach Steve Kerr, sidelined since the start of the season with complications from off-season back surgeries.
Kerr didn't agree with the decision to give him credit for Walton's wins.
"I think it's ridiculous," he told ESPN.com last week.
"I'm sitting in the locker room and watching the games on TV, and I'm not even travelling to most of the road games.
"Luke's doing all the work with the rest of the staff. Luke is (19-0) right now. I'm not. So it's the dumbest thing I've ever heard, to be honest with you. I don't even understand it."
But the NBA said any head coach, interim or acting, is eligible to be recognised with league coaching awards, so Walton received the recognition, but not the wins.
Walton, who joined the Warriors staff last season, shrugged off the technicality, saying he was happy to help pad Kerr's already sparkling win-loss record.
"Steve's done a lot for me," said the 35-year-old Walton. "It's the least I can do to add a couple wins on his total for him." David Blatt was named the NBA Eastern Conference Coach of the month for November, after guiding the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 13-4 mark.
