No debate, Cormann says of budget bill

The federal government expects Labor to honour its word and back an omnibus bill containing $6 billion in budget savings measures.

The Turnbull government wants to fast track it $6 billion budget savings bill when parliament resumes next week.

"This is the bottom line the Labor Party and the coalition agreed upon in the course of the election campaign," Finance Minister Mathias Cormann told Sky News on Friday as the opposition signalled it may not support the dumping of a carbon tax household assistance payment.

"This is a piece of legislation that shouldn't really have any debate."
