No hard feelings to fans: du Plessis

South African captain Faf du Plessis says he has no hard feelings towards the Adelaide crowd which booed him throughout the third Test against Australia.

Triumphant South African captain Faf du Plessis says he holds no lingering ill-feeling towards abusive Australian crowds.

In the wake of being found guilty of ball tampering, du Plessis was booed by the Adelaide Oval crowd throughout the third Test loss to Australia.

"It was just the last couple of days where there was a little bit of huff and puff around," he told reporters.

"The Aussie public was great until this last week. I think that is just part of riding the wave of what has happened.

"So no hard feelings."

Du Plessis was jeered one last time in Adelaide when receiving the trophy for winning the series 2-1 - the third consecutive time South Africa have won a Test series in Australia.

The stand-in skipper said the series victory was memorable given the Proteas lost regular captain AB de Villiers to injury before the tour and then fast bowling spearhead Dale Steyn to a shoulder ailment in the first Test.

"Before the series, if you told the South African team you lose those two players, they would say we had no chance," du Plessis said.

"The most pleasing thing is everyone in the team stepped up.

"There was not just one guy that we relied on through the series from a batting point of view ... and our whole bowling unit performed at different stages.

"Our mission is successful. The last four days was not to plan but ... it's an incredible series to beat Australia 2-1. And to do it three times in a row (in Australia) is a huge effort."
