Queensland police won't investigate the vandalism of a memorial dedicated to murdered Brisbane mum Allison Baden-Clay after her family chose not to make a formal complaint.

The plaque was forcibly removed from the sandstone structure on Mount Crosby Rd at Anstead, where her body was found after her husband Gerard Baden-Clay killed her in 2012.

Mrs Baden-Clay's father Geoff Dickie said the family was "disappointed and upset" someone had interfered with it.

"We think it's a bit disrespectful to damage a memorial, he told The Courier-Mail.

A Queensland Police Service spokesman told AAP it had been made aware of the vandalism.

"We have been advised that at this stage the family do not wish to make a formal complaint," he said on Wednesday.

"It is our understanding that the family will be undertaking repairs to the memorial themselves."

The spokesman said because police had not received a formal complaint it would not be investigating the vandalism but anyone with information was urged to come forward.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk slammed the vandals responsible for the damage.

"The memorial is a constant reminder to everyone who knew Allison about how she touched their lives," she said in a statement.

"It is awful to think that someone would damage it in this way."

National domestic violence helpline: 1800 737 732 or 1800RESPECT. In an emergency call triple-zero.
