No Liberal MPs in gender pay gap debate

Liberal MPs are not taking part in a debate over the gender pay gap, which Labor says is "extraordinary" given claims of bullying against women in the party.

Labor says it's "extraordinary" the government is not taking part in a debate over the gender pay gap, after a number of Liberal women MPs said they were bullied.

Labor MP Anthony Albanese pointed to claims made by Liberal MP Julia Banks, who will quit politics at the next election, which were backed by former foreign minister Julie Bishop, while Senator Lucy Gichuhi is threatening to name those responsible under parliamentary privilege this week.

"Given issues of bullying targeting women members ... it's extraordinary those opposite feel like they should not participate in a debate over the gender pay gap," Mr Albanese told the lower house during the debate on Monday.
