A new initiative by the United Nations children's agency is aiming to raise $1billion for Syrian children.

UNICEF says Syrian children have been hit hardest in the conflict that's raged for almost three years now - seeing their families killed and schools destroyed.

The "No Lost Generation" project is focusing on education and protection programs for children in Syria and in neighbouring countries where Syrians have taken refuge to escape the violence.

UNICEF spokeswoman Juliette Touma spoke with Zara Zaher about how the devastation in Syria is affecting children.
