It’s a place where treats and treadmills collide.

A new gym just for dogs has opened its doors in the US state of Virginia.

Kimberly Gilliam, owner of Frolick Dogs, says she wanted to do something “different” for pet lovers.

“We wanted to be the safe, year-round environment where people could bring their dog, work with them, either reinforce training they had or work on new skill development and really just have fun,” she said.

“We think it’s pretty unique.”

Dog owner Jim Robb was among the first to stop by with his pet.

“No, I don’t think it’s indulgent,” he said.

“Having a dog like this is pretty expensive, but this is hardly the most expensive part.”

Membership will set dog owners back US $700 a year.
