The Australian Greens say there is no need to renew the Peter Garrett "witch-hunt" because of the botched green home scheme.
The opposition has renewed calls for Mr Garrett's head following the release of two damning reports on Thursday into the $300 million Green Loans scheme.
Costs were up to 19 times over budget, and bureaucrats didn't seek permission before increasing subsidies paid to banks, the reports found.

There was also insufficient competition for tenders, under the scheme that Mr Garrett's department had been responsible for.
Greens senator Scott Ludlam says there is "no excuse" for poor administration because, unlike the home insulation scheme, the rollout wasn't rushed.
"But rather than going back on a (Peter Garrett) witch-hunt we need to look at what happens to the scheme now," he told ABC Television.
The scheme's loans have been axed although home assessments are continuing, with the government promising extra help for low-income households.
Climate Change Minister Penny Wong is now responsible for the scheme.
