International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Thomas Bach is not concerned about security at the 2024 Summer Games in Paris, insisting all organisers are aware of the sensitive issue.
"Security is always a top priority. Who can tell you now what security situation there will be in seven years? - nobody," Bach told a media conference at the IOC Session in Lima after Paris was elected to host the 2024 Games and Los Angeles 2028.
There have been several attacks in recent years in the French capital, most notably on the Charlie Hebdo satirical magazine and the November 2015 attacks in which 130 people died. The 2024 Olympic Stadium, the Stade de France, was a target.
France has stepped up security considerably and no incidents occurred during last year's hosting of the Euro 2016 football tournament.
"It is important that organising committees and governments are aware of the challenges," Bach said.
"It would be a victory for terrorists if we had no more Olympics. We are united as we stand for our values, for diversity, respect, tolerance. We are not ready to give in to terrorism."
