No place like home for new golf star Luck

WA golfer Curtis Luck will be among the drawcards for the revolutionary World Super 6 Perth golf event at Lake Karrinyup.

Rising Australian golf star Curtis Luck hopes some home comforts and his mother's sauerkraut will help propel him to the biggest win of his fledgling career.

Luck's standing in the sport has risen dramatically since winning the US Amateur Championship last August.

The 20-year-old plans to turn professional after he competes in the US Masters in April, but he wants to bag a win before then in order to secure a tour card.

Luck views this week's revolutionary World Super 6 tournament in Perth as the ideal chance to land his first European Tour win.

If Luck wins, he would be the first amateur to win on the European Tour since Shane Lowry won the Irish Open in 2009.

He would also earn an exemption on the European Tour until the end of next year in what would greatly smooth his transition into professional ranks.

Luck knows Lake Karrinyup well, having been a member there during his junior days.

The opportunity to stay at home during the World Super 6 has also fuelled his belief that a good week lies ahead.

"I think comfort wise I get to stay at home, dump my washing onto my mum, and get some dinner," Luck said.

"It was sauerkraut and sausages (the other night), so typical Hungarian style because it's my mum's background.

"I enjoyed that thoroughly, and have been eating the leftovers for the last few days.

"And I know the course like the back of my hand. It's definitely the best chance I'll get to make a run I think."

Luck said his golf game "got a little rough" during his recent stint playing in the Middle East and Malaysia..

But he's confident he's ironed out the kinks ahead of Thursday's opening round of the World Super 6 Perth.

The tournament will feature three rounds of traditional stroke play, before the top 24 players go head-to-head in a knockout match play format in the final round.

If players are tied after their six-hole match play, the winner will be decided by a duel on a purpose-built, 90m playoff hole.

The match play aspect counts in Luck's favour, given his vast recent experience of the format on the amateur tour.

Luck's profile has risen dramatically over the past year, and he said he was still getting used to his new-found celebrity status.

"It is obviously interesting signing hats and things like that on the range," Luck said.

"It's something that's new to me, so that has been a great experience and it's good for my learning too."
