No plan on TAB sale in time for WA budget

The WA premier says a decision to sell the TAB will not be made until after the state budget is handed down next week and will depend on the racing industry.

A decision on whether to sell betting agency TAB will not be made until after the West Australian budget is handed down next week.

Premier Mark McGowan said Racing Minister Paul Papalia was in discussions with the racing industry but no decision to sell the online and retail arms of the state-owned TAB had been made.

He conceded the state's credit rating could put a "dampener" on any sale process due to a devaluation of government assets.

The TAB is run by Racing and Wagering Western Australia, which also oversees the WA racing industry.

In its annual report for 2015-16, RWWA partly blamed a drop in profits on uncertainty over the former Barnett government's plan to sell the TAB, with revenue falling from $339 million in 2014 to $330 million.
