No Qld election call this week: Pitt

Acting Premier Curtis Pitt won't be stealing Annastacia Palaszczuk's thunder, stating there's no way a Queensland election will be called this week.

Queensland's Acting Premier Curtis Pitt knows one thing about the state election; it won't be called this week.

Mr Pitt wouldn't be drawn on growing speculation Queenslanders will be heading to the polls in the near future, but could at least confirm it won't be called while Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk is on leave this week.

"I can tell you it won't be called this week," he said.

The next state poll in Queensland is due early next year but is widely expected to be called for late October or early November.

Mr Pitt attempted to hose down the speculation, however, telling everyone to take "cold shower" on the issue.

"I know from my own experience in north Queensland we've got work to do that we want to get done before we go to an election," he said.

"Everyone just needs to take a break when it comes to election speculation, we've still got a lot of governing to do."
