Police are yet to identify a young woman found dead, believed murdered, in a central Brisbane park.

A passer-by found the slain woman next to stairs at the southern boundary of Wickham Park, off Albert St, in the CBD about 4.30am (AEST).

Police won't disclose her injuries but say they have opened a homicide investigation.

"At this stage we're very early in our investigations," Detective Acting Inspector Thomas Armitt told reporters at the scene.

"Police are appealing to members of the public who were in the area between the hours of 3.30am and 4.30am to come forward."

He said police had no suspects at this stage.

A section of Wickham Park and part of Albert St have been cordoned off and forensic officers are working at the scene.

A police spokeswoman said the dead woman was believed to be in her 20s.
