No Tippett for Swans in Kangaroos AFL game

Toby Nankervis, Robbie Gray, Danyle Pearce and Rory Thompson have been named for Sunday's AFL matches.

Sydney coach John Longmire has opted against fielding big man Kurt Tippett in Sunday's do-or-die AFL clash with North Melbourne.

The important tall has been absent for the past fortnight - including the Swans' sole win of the season against Brisbane - with a hip concern.

It will sideline him for another week, with the Swans going in unchanged against the Kangaroos.

Longmire said he and Gary Rohan would be best served by a week in the NEAFL.

"They need to be able to get back in, play the game, run around, get some conditioning and some touch," he told the club's website.

"We pick the best team we think can give us the best chance of winning. The 22 that played last week did the job for us."

North Melbourne have made two forced changes, with Jarrad Waite (suspension) and Corey Wagner (ankle) dropping out.

In their place come rookie duo Jy Simpkin and key back Sam Durdin.

Despite their poor records - North (2-5) and Sydney (1-6) - both sides believe they can reach the finals - a task that becomes more difficult with a loss at Etihad Stadium.

Earlier on Friday, Melbourne forward Jesse Hogan was ruled out of the Demons' trip to Adelaide with illness.

Sam Weideman has replaced him in the side.

Richmond will benefit from the return of Toby Nankervis for their match with Fremantle.

The Tigers have made three changes, with Jake Batchelor and Shane Edwards coming in for Anthony Miles and Nick Vlastuin (shoulder).

Fremantle have recalled veteran Danyle Pearce after five matches out, with young midfielder Harley Balic unwell.

Port Adelaide insist star Robbie Gray is fit to face Gold Coast in Shanghai despite concerns over the midfielder's calf.

Brendon Ah Chee and Karl Amon have been brought into the side for the historic match, with Aaron Young and Dan Houston dropped.

The Suns have selected Rory Thompson, Jack Bowes and Brayden Fiorini in place of David Swallow (knee), Matt Rosa (concussion) and Callum Ah Chee (back).
