No Turnbull/Morrison tension: O'Dwyer

The assistant treasurer has come out to bat for Scott Morrison and Malcolm Turnbull, insisting both remain good friends.

Malcolm Turnbull and Treasurer Scott Morrison enjoy a strong relationship and any speculation otherwise is false, one of their cabinet colleagues says.

Assistant Treasurer Kelly O'Dwyer has dismissed claims of tension between the prime minister and Mr Morrison amid poor polling for the coalition.

"There is a very good and strong relationship between the treasurer and the prime minister and all of this nonsense - speculation - is simply a distraction," she told the Nine Network on Wednesday.

Government backbencher Michelle Landry, who holds a marginal Queensland seat, said there was a perception the coalition lacked focus.

"I think it's coming across to the public that we are a bit wishy-washy," she told ABC Radio.

Resources Minister Josh Frydenberg played down the MP's comments.

"Malcolm Turnbull is being a very decisive and determined leader," he told ABC TV, pointing to the passage of legislation that changes how Australians elect senators.

The whole team behind Mr Turnbull needed to "put the shoulder to the wheel" in the lead-up to the election.

"I'm not worried. I think the election will be tight and that's what the polls reflect," he said.
