Malcolm Turnbull says Donald Trump's rise to the US presidency demonstrates the importance of ensuring nobody is left behind in times of rapid economic change.

The prime minister said it was a vital that no voter felt overlooked.

"The change is seen to be inclusive, that is to say no sectors or communities or regions should be allowed to be left behind," he told reporters in Canberra on Thursday.
