Welcome to New Zealand.
Renowned for being a land of warmth and hospitality for tourists, Eden Park was anything but for Australia's cricket side on Wednesday.
Even before the first ball was bowled, the crowd was vociferous and full of unsolicited advice.
David Warner may have changed his life in recent years but the vice-captain remains a lightning rod for abuse.
"Go home you w*****," one fan asked of Warner as Australia trotted onto the field.
The request was repeated. Often. Usually with a few expletives chucked in.
On the field, Brendon McCullum and Martin Guptill belted Australia's attack out of the ground.
Literally.
Guptill struck an astonishing lofted six in the fourth over, broadcasters suggesting the ball sailed 113 metres before lobbing on the roof of the grandstand.
As was the case with Dan Christian's incredible blow that knocked a ball out of the Gabba during the Big Bash League, Guptill's facial expression said it all.
You suspect Australia skipper Steve Smith was wearing a somewhat similar look of disbelief.
"We've got a few plans in place for him. He's traditionally not done so well against Australia so hopefully we can keep that record up," Smith said a day earlier of Guptill, leading run-scorer of the 2015 World Cup.
Kane Richardson, who bowled the delivery that Guptill smeared with utter disrespect, had predicted he would "cop a bit" from NZ's batsmen and supporters.
But at least Richardson had a small win at the sun-soaked venue.
"Boof said when he played in Wellington he got a fish thrown at him, or a toilet seat or something. So it'd be nice if that didn't happen," Richardson said in the lead-up to the ODI series opener.
As so often happens in cricket, momentum shifted after NZ raced to 0-71 after 10 overs.
The crowd was not quite silenced but certainly subdued after the dismissals of McCullum and Kane Williamson.
However the hosts' fans and batsmen laid down a marker in the opening number of McCullum's farewell tour, making it clear how they intend to treat the visiting world champions.
