No word if Aussies in Italy train crash

DFAT doesn't yet know if any Australians were caught up in a deadly train crash in Italy but embassy officials in Rome are trying to find out.

It's not yet known if any Australians have been killed or injured in a deadly high-speed train crash in southern Italy.

At least 25 people are dead and dozens more are hurt after two passenger trains collided head-on, at high speed, on a single track in the southeastern Puglia region, which is popular with international tourists.

The impact tore three carriages apart and Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs says embassy officials in Rome are trying to determine if any Australians were caught up in the disaster.
